Leg 10- May 12- Lake Anita, IA
Iowa, being prettier than we expected. |
We pushed pretty far today to made it to one of the top State Parks in Iowa, Lake Anita. Not only was the park mostly empty, but the weather was perfect and we enjoyed fantastic views right out the windows of the Bounder. EP put her feet in her first lake, then roared at some passing motorboats.
Unfortunately, as we deployed our leveling jacks, a return spring broke (which was a terrifying noise but nobody was hurt). We ordered a replacement part for as fast as we can get delivery (expected to arrive at our first Montana stop), yaaay general delivery. To get the jack to retract and, consequently, be able to drive, I had to get use a lot of force. Without the proper tools we were in a real pickle until Kara, a State Parks employee, happened to pass by and lent me a huge digging bar. Archimedes (or Mesopotamian Culture 3000 years before him), knew how levers were useful and I was able to get the jack retracted. Highly delayed, we were on the road again!
